If you just got engaged, congratulations! Whether you popped the question or said yes, that’s a moment you’ll both remember and cherish forever. However, amidst the excitement of such a joyous occasion, you’re probably feeling some anxiety as you wonder what to do next. Take a deep breath with us and read on as we cover a few things every couple should do after getting engaged!

1. Celebrate and Tell Your Friends and Family

While your wedding day and subsequent anniversaries are the date most will remember, it all started with the moment one of you got down on one knee. That deserves some celebration, so before you do anything else, enjoy it! Call your closest friends and family and tell them the news (unless they’re already there), go out to dinner together, show off that ring on social media, and even plan an engagement party. Whatever your vibe is, enjoy the occasion!

2. Insure Your Ring

This isn’t as fun to talk about as engagement parties, but it’s a crucial detail if the ring is important to you! Ring insurance protects you if your ring is lost, damaged, or stolen through replacement, repair, and/or reimbursement depending on your coverage. If you have homeowner’s or renter’s insurance, you can add a rider to your plan that covers your ring. However, coverage through homeowner’s/renter’s insurance plans is often limited compared to specialized jewelry insurers so be sure to check the fine print! Even if you intend to protect that diamond with your life, better safe than sorry.

3. Discuss Your Ideal Wedding Day

If you and your partner haven’t already discussed what your perfect wedding would look like, now is the time! There are plenty of details to consider when planning a wedding, such as location, type of venue, how many guests you want to attend, the date, and so much more. Make sure you’re both on the same page before you really dive into planning to avoid unnecessary stress and confusion later!

4. Lock Down a Venue and Date

Once you’re confident that you both know what you’re looking for, choose a date and book your venue as soon as you can! The most comfortable and picturesque times of the year, such as fall at Castle Ladyhawke, fill up early and fast. It’s not uncommon for a weekend in October to be booked 2 years in advance, so don’t wait if you’ve found your dream venue!

5. Create a Wedding Website

It isn’t as complicated as it sounds! For example, theknot.com offers a free and simple wedding website builder that comes with plenty of beautiful templates. You can add engagement photos to a gallery, integrate your guest list and gift registry, and even manage your website from their smartphone app. Setting one up takes a matter of minutes and gives your guest a central source to refer to for all their questions and concerns. That’ll save YOU time and energy as the big day nears!
