Engagement season is fast approaching, which means many people are making plans to propose to their partner. If you’re one of them, that’s great! It’s an extremely special moment you should be excited for. However, that excitement usually comes with a lot of anxiety and questions. Will they say yes? Who do I tell? Should I make it a big deal or keep it intimate? I can’t specifically answer all of those questions for everyone, but take a deep breath, follow your heart, and read on for some tips on how to make your proposal at Castle Ladyhawke a moment they’ll never forget.

Before you plan the when, where, and how, make sure you’re 100% prepared and on the same page with your partner. Proposals often have an element of surprise to them but popping that all-important question likely won’t be a complete surprise to your partner. In fact, according to TheKnot 35% of couples discussed proposing with each other before it happened, and as much as 70% of proposees have some involvement in picking out the ring. So while many stress about keeping every aspect of the proposal a surprise, it’s common to discuss things like ring size ahead of time. Besides, getting them a ring they’ll love that fits them perfectly matters more!

Once you have a ring in hand (or box) and you’re ready to get down on one knee, it’s time to finalize the details. The three most important in this case are the when, the where, and the how.

When

While the wedding anniversary is typically a more widely remembered and celebrated date than the engagement anniversary, it’s still a day you both will look back on forever. Consider picking a date that has meaning to both of you, like the anniversary of your first date or the day you first met. Or perhaps pick a date that was once meaningless and give it new meaning. Then, narrow down the right time of day. Sunsets alongside fall colors are especially romantic, but maybe proposing under the stars would leave more of a twinkle in their eye.

Where

Castle Ladyhawke and Bear Lake Reserve are filled with romantic spots that make for perfect proposal locations. Between mountaintops, waterfalls, beachfronts, peaceful ponds, and Castle Ladyhawke’s iconic tower, there’s an ideal spot for every couple. Here are a few of my favorite for inspiration:

How

This is your opportunity to truly personalize your proposal and make it uniquely yours, but don’t feel obligated to put on a huge show. Some partners prefer a simple proposal between just the two of you, while others would melt at the sight of “Will you marry me?” being written in the sky for all to see. You know them better than most, so use your best judgment. Also, don’t hesitate to reach out to their friends and family to find ways to get them involved! Whether you need help holding up a sign or just someone to snap a picture, having friends and family involved often makes the moment even more special.

Now that you’re a little more prepared, follow your heart and enjoy the process. It’s normal to be nervous but stay confident and don’t overthink things! Your love for them is what matters, and you know how to show it. If you’re planning on proposing at Castle Ladyhawke or Bear Lake Reserve, let us know! We love seeing love happen and would be honored to be a part of your special moment.
